Minimum income changes for some visa holders Monday, 13 May 2019

From 13 May, we are raising the minimum income for some visa holders to reflect changes to New Zealand benefit rates.

Essential Skills and Religious Worker visas

From 13 May, people holding Essential Skills and Religious Worker work visas must earn at least NZ$43,322.76 a year if they have:

  • dependent children in New Zealand, and
  • their children's visas are dependent on their parent's work visa.

This is an increase from the current minimum of NZ$42,944.20.

This minimum income threshold is not the same as the skill-band remuneration rates for Essential Skills work visas.

Samoan Quota and Pacific Access Category visas

From 13 May, people applying for the Samoan Quota Scheme and Pacific Access Category who have dependent children included in their application must earn at least NZ$38,577.76.

This is an increase from the current minimum of NZ$38,199.20.
