A working holiday in New Zealand

Apply online

You can apply for many of our working holiday schemes online. After you've applied you can expect to receive an email or automated message from us within five working days, either approving your visa or asking for more information.

See the working holiday scheme questions and answers section to check if you have to submit a General Medical Certificate (INZ 1007) PDF and/or Chest X-ray Certificate (INZ 1096) PDF. After you apply, if certificates are required, they must be received by Immigration New Zealand within 15 days from the submission of your visa application. You will also receive an automated message, requiring this to be submitted within 15 days. Please email us if you require an extension to this date.

Check your spam or junk mail folders, so you do not miss important information, as our emails sometimes get mistaken for spam.

Note: If you have a partner and/or dependent children, they cannot be granted visas based on your WHS visa. They will need to apply in their own right by submitting a separate application.

Using an immigration adviser

If you are using an immigration adviser to help you complete your application, they must be licensed, or exempt. For more information, see the Immigration Advisers Authority website.

New Zealand lawyers provide immigration advice and are exempt from licensing under the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007. For more information and to view practising immigration lawyers, go to the ‘Find and lawyer or organisation’ link on the New Zealand Law Society website.
