Settlement programmes funded by Immigration New Zealand

Since 2002, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has been actively funding a growing number of migrant and refugee support organisations. These groups provide a diverse range of services designed to help new migrants settle in their new home.

 

Services offered include English language tuition, information on buying and renting homes, tax and business information, and general information about the cost of living in New Zealand.

Organisation Services provided
Auckland Chamber of Commerce New Kiwis website for matching your skills with employers' needs; employment seminars, workshops and one-on-one job-seeking sessions when required.
Auckland Regional Migrant Resource Centre (ARMS) Clear point of contact for settlement information in the Auckland region.
Canterbury Employers' Chamber of Commerce Job placement and job search support programme for skilled migrants and refugees. One-on-one case management with job seekers aimed at linking skills and work experience with employers.
Chinese New Settlers Services Trust Runs five multi-service centres providing bi-lingual programmes, seminars, and one-on-one case management to meet the settlement needs of local Chinese migrant community.

Free resettlement services – social work, counselling, ongoing orientation/ESOL, health promotion for refugees and migrants. The workers are multi-ethnic qualified professionals.
Citizens Advice Bureau Multi-lingual advice on many typical issues, for example legal or financial issues, housing or vehicle problems, education.
PEETO Christchurch Cultural migrant orientation courses; referrals to agencies offering further training and employment opportunities; job placement; support for migrants in job search.
Refugee Services Refugee resettlement services including housing, ESOL tuition, social services, education, health and employment.
Relationship Services Courses on adjusting well to life in New Zealand.
