M2.1 Military visa applications

1. Members of a visiting force (including members of the civilian component of the visiting force) as defined in the Visiting Forces Act 2004, or crew members of any military craft transporting such people to New Zealand, applying for military visas must:
   1. meet lodgement requirements as set out at E4.50; and
   2. be bona fide applicants as set out at E5; and
   3. meet health and character requirements as set out at M2.5; and
   4. provide evidence to establish that they will be in New Zealand at the request or with consent of the Government of New Zealand, and in the ordinary course of their duty or employment.
2. Applicants are exempt from:
   1. providing an application fee; and
   2. meeting onward travel requirements.
3. Evidence that the applicant will be in New Zealand at the request or with consent of the Government of New Zealand, and in the ordinary course of their duty or employment, may include but is not limited to:
   1. a military movement order; or
   2. joining instruction for a course run by the New Zealand Defence Force; or
   3. other evidence provided by the New Zealand Defence Force.

Note: Members of a visiting force (including members of the civilian component of the visiting force) as defined in the Visiting Forces Act 2004, or crew members of any military craft transporting such people to New Zealand, are exempt from having to produce a passport or certificate of identity (see Y2.10).
