South Africa - Trade Qualifications (27/01/2014)

Level 3 Qualifications

Appendix 3 does not include Level 3 qualifications. Level three qualifications which are recognised as an exception under the Skilled Migrant Category are included in the list of Qualifications recognised as an Exception (Appendix 8).

The qualifications listed below qualify for the points indicated where the qualification:

  • is relevant to an occupation in Part B of the List of Skilled Occupations at Appendix 6, and
  • in Table A is awarded within the ‘qualification awarded from’ date range by a Government Department in Table C: and
  • there is evidence of a completed contract of Apprenticeship:
    • between 1977 – 1983, awarded or endorsed by the Registrar of Apprenticeship (Apprenticeship Act, No. 37, 1944 with amendments), in the same or similar occupation as the qualification from Table A, or
    • from 1984, awarded or endorsed by the Register of Manpower Training, in terms of the Manpower Training Act, 1981, in the same or similar occupation as the qualification from Table A.
  • in Table B is awarded within the ‘qualification awarded from’ date range by:
    • a Government Department listed in Table C; or
    • a Technikon listed in Table D.

If an applicant believes their qualification may be higher than the level stated they should apply to the NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.

Note: Award certificates must be provided in their original language for all qualifications.

If any courses leading to the award of one of the qualifications listed in Tables A or B above were studied at any institution outside of South Africa, including any South African overseas campuses or any courses which have been cross-credited towards the listed qualifications, please refer the qualification to the NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.

All qualifications awarded after 2013 should be referred to NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.

For any purpose other than claiming the SMC points stated, additional evidence of at least a qualifying trade test, in a relevant occupation, is likely to also be required.
