F4.25 Sponsorship requirements for the Parent Category (30/07/2012)

In order to gain residence under the Parent Category, applicants must be sponsored by an adult child (see F4.20) who:

  1. meets the requirements to be an acceptable sponsor as set out at R4.5, including being:
    1. ordinarily resident in New Zealand; and
    2. a New Zealand citizen and/or the holder of a New Zealand residence class visa for at least three years immediately preceding the date the application they wish to sponsor is made; and
  2. agrees to meet the undertakings set out at R4.10 for the first five years of the applicant’s stay in New Zealand as a resident.

    Note: For the purposes of F4.25, a person is considered to be ‘ordinarily resident’ in New Zealand where an immigration officer is satisfied that New Zealand is their primary place of established residence.
