RW5 English language requirements under the Residence from Work Category

  1. To be granted a resident visa, any partner or dependent child aged 16 and older, who are included in any Residence from Work Category application, must either:
    1. show that they meet a minimum standard of English to ensure their English language ability is sufficient to assist them to successfully settle in New Zealand (see RW5.1); or
    2. pre-purchase ESOL training.
  2. In addition, principal applicants under Religious Worker instructions must show that they meet a minimum standard of English to ensure their English language ability is sufficient to assist them to successfully settle in New Zealand (see RW5.1).
  3. Despite RW5(a), any partner or dependent child included in a South Island Contribution Resident Visa application does not have to meet English language requirements.
