W2.20 Onward travel requirements

Immigration Act 1987 s 28(1)
Immigration Regulations 1999 reg 21

  1. Applicants for work permits must show evidence of the travel arrangements made to leave New Zealand at the end of their stay, such as:
    1. actual travel tickets (confirmed or open-dated) out of New Zealand to a destination to which the applicant has right of entry; or
    2. if applying on arrival in New Zealand, a work visa endorsed to show that the onward travel requirement has been met or waived; or
    3. written confirmation from an airline or travel agency that onward travel has been booked and paid for; or
    4. sponsorship covering repatriation, which can include a written guarantee of repatriation from the New Zealand employer.
  2. Applicants for work visas must also show the evidence required in paragraph (a) above if requested to do so by a visa officer.
