D9.1 Repatriation of people from New Zealand
Immigration Act 1987 s 148
- Repatriation involves the State paying some or all travel costs to enable permit holders who are not New Zealand citizens to return to a country to which they have right of entry. This will usually be their country of citizenship.
- In some cases where the family unit wishes to remain intact, this may include repatriating a New Zealand citizen or resident spouse, partner and dependent children.
- Repatriation will normally only occur in circumstances where the person is the holder of a current permit or has been in New Zealand unlawfully for less than 42 days, and then, only if D9.5 applies.
