D4.1 Removal action

  1. Persons who are liable to removal may be removed from New Zealand following the service of a removal order.
  2. Immigration officers have the discretion to effect removal by having a person liable for removal:
    1. taken into custody by a Police officer; or
    2. monitoring the person's departure without having them taken into custody.
  3. Officers need to assess the most appropriate means of removal after having taken into account all the circumstances of the case.
