Before you begin the application process, there is some important information for Work to Residence applicants.
You can apply for a Work to Residence visa either before you travel to New Zealand or if you are already lawfully in New Zealand.
Your partner or dependent children cannot be included in your application. They will need to apply for their own visitor, student or work visa to come to New Zealand.
Once you hold a work visa, your partner may be able to apply for a work visa under our Family Stream.
After two years, if you meet the residence requirements, you will be able to apply for residence. You must be in New Zealand when you lodge the application for residence. You may also be able to apply for a further work visa.
You will need to allow sufficient time for a decision to be made on your application before your current visa expires. If your current visa does expire, your application for a further visa does not make your stay in New Zealand lawful or give you the right to remain in New Zealand while your application is being considered.
Follow the steps to apply for a Work to Residence visa under the relevant immigration instructions:
The fastest and easiest way to apply for a work visa is online. Once you have your documents prepared, it should take less than 15 minutes to submit an online application. Your employer can help you complete the online form, but they can’t provide you with immigration advice.
If you are unable to apply online, you can submit a paper application to your nearest office.
