Taranaki - work opportunities

Taranaki is renowned for its petrochemicals and dairying industries. Two thirds of Taranaki farms are dedicated to dairy production while the oil, gas and petrochemical industry contributes about $NZ1 billion a year to the nation’s economy. Our engineering base has a proven record of providing the complete spectrum of engineering services. Increasing numbers of visitors coming to the regions is also contributing to a growing tourism industry.

The region has a skilled and continually expanding export-oriented manufacturing and service base including dairy products, specialty dough and meat as well as timber, chemical and metal based products. Approximately 800 hectares of land are presently used for horticulture within Taranaki and there is plenty of potential for further development in this industry.

Taranaki is one of the fastest growing regions in New Zealand and has one of lowest rates of unemployment. Skill shortages exist in the following areas: production engineers, production technologists, electricians, mechanics, carpenters, accounts, registered nurses and caregivers along with educators.
