How to apply for a visitor visa

Note: You'll find the forms and guides you need on the right side of the page

1. Complete the form(s)

Complete the Visitor Visa Application (INZ 1017) PDF [536KB].

 

If you are located in the Auckland region and need a visitor visa, use the Visitor Visa Application for Auckland Region Applicants (INZ 1111) PDF [258KB], or

Partnership-based visitor visa applications

If you are applying for a visitor visa on the basis of your partnership with someone who is already in New Zealand, complete the  Partnership-based Temporary Visa Application (INZ 1198) PDF [653KB].

 

Your partner must also complete a Form for partners supporting partnership-based temporary entry applications (INZ 1146) PDF [236KB].

2. If you need one, get a medical certificate

If you intend to be in New Zealand for more than six months, you may also need to provide a completed Chest X-ray Certificate (INZ 1096) PDF [557KB]. Check if you need to.

 

If you intend to be in New Zealand for more than one year, you will need to provide a completed General Medical Certificate (INZ 1007) PDF [480KB] and Chest X-ray Certificate (INZ 1096) PDF [557KB]. If you have already provided these certificates within the last 36 months you may not need to provide new certificates.

3. Provide all the information requested

To ensure your application is accepted, provide all information required in the checklist on your application form along with the correct fee.

 

Note: Many of our branches provide checklists with local requirements on their branch web pages.

 

4. Lodge your application

If you are overseas, your application must be approved before you travel to New Zealand. Find out where to send your application.

 

If you are applying for a visitor visa and you are in the Auckland region, your application must be sent to:

 

Immigration New Zealand
PO Box 76895
Auckland Mail Centre

 

If you elsewhere in New Zealand, you must send your application to your nearest Immigration New Zealand branch.
