The West Coast is a narrow strip of land 600 kilometres long, wedged between the towering Southern Alps and the wide expanse of the Tasman Sea.
Many internationally known photographs of New Zealand originate from this region as the pristine rivers/lakes, snow capped mountains and glaciers, crashing surf on rock formations, steaming podacarp rainforest, mirror lakes and wilderness are portrayed as representing our clean and green image.
Low population and high, dramatic scenic beauty makes the West Coast one of the “must visit” destinations on many tourist itineraries.
