National associations

Many cultures and nationalities have groups or associations in our bigger towns and cities. They offer support to newcomers and opportunities to meet other people from the same country. Sometimes they will offer interpreting and translation services and legal advice. Most groups hold social events and celebrations of their national holidays and festivals too.

Your local city council or Citizens Advice Bureau will usually be able to put you in touch with local associations. You’ll find that many are also listed in the telephone book.
