Health care

Being able to get good health care is important when you are studying overseas. Our universities and polytechnics all have student health services. You can use these for a very reasonable fee while you are a student.

If you are in a homestay you will probably be able to visit your homestay family’s doctor.

You need to have good health insurance. New Zealand has publicly-funded health services like subsidised prescription medication and free hospital treatment; however, you need to satisfy certain eligibility criteria for these services to be free or subsidised. Please use the Ministry of Health's Guide to Eligibility Criteria to see if you meet the requirements.
