Dunedin, the capital of the Otago region, has the deserved reputation as the country’s ‘Student City’ and is home to 25,000 students, giving the City a special character and a dynamic, vibrant atmosphere. 2250 international students from more than 75 countries worldwide choose to study in Dunedin each year.
Two of Otago’s tertiary education providers, the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic, are certified and operating the Students Online system. Both are located in Dunedin, 5 minutes walk from the city centre.
The University — New Zealand’s oldest — runs a Language Centre which draws a number of international students to Otago to study for a foundation year. It aims to provide expert English language tuition, academic knowledge and an internationally recognised entry qualification to enable you to be admitted to university.
The Polytechnic welcomes over 200 students each year, many of them from India, China and Japan. They are able to study in a wide range of fields at degree level, and the polytechnic also operates an English language institute.
The City’s primary and secondary schools also offer a range of excellent facilities, and a low teacher to pupil ratio. Students are taught by highly qualified, dedicated staff and have the choice of an educational system that suits their needs. Schools provide a safe, friendly and positive environment where students are actively encouraged to reach their full potential.
