About applying for a visa

  • About dealing with Immigration New Zealand

Whatever category you are applying under, your application will be treated fairly and equally. We will process your application as quickly as we can.

  • About the application process

The application process differs for each category, but there are some questions which are often asked about all types of applications.

  • Getting your documents together

When you submit your application form, you have to provide evidence that you meet our health and character requirements by supplying us with medical certificates and police certificates.

  • Health and character

Before being granted a New Zealand residence visa, applicants are required to provide evidence to show that they meet the minimum health and character requirements to live in New Zealand.

  • Problems and delays

Most problems and delays happen because an applicant has not provided all of the information required. Make sure you check the requirements of the category you are applying under before you send in your application. The application forms and guides set out the documents you need to produce with your application so that it can be accepted for processing.
