To be approved residence under the Parent Category you will need to have a minimum standard of English. You can show you meet the English requirements by providing one of the following:
If you are a citizen of Samoa and your application is being assessed by the Immigration New Zealand branch in Apia you may be able to attend an interview with an immigration officer to prove your English language ability.
If you do not meet the minimum standard of English, you may instead pre-purchase English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) tuition and agree to undertake the tuition. The fee for this tuition is NZ$1,735. Immigration New Zealand will tell you exactly how you can pay this if your application is approved in principle. For more information on the ESOL migrant programme, please visit the Tertiary Education Commission website.
You have five years in which to complete the ESOL tuition you have paid for.
