Pets

You may need to plan at least six months ahead if you want to bring any pets with you to New Zealand. New Zealand has very strict regulations regarding bringing pets into the country, which serve to protect our environment.

Cats and dogs from many countries can be brought into New Zealand. However, they will need to meet certain requirements before they come here and may have to be put in quarantine when they arrive. Australia is the only exception to this: you can move your pets freely between New Zealand and Australia.

Due to the length of time it may take to arrange bringing your pet into New Zealand, it is advisable to begin preparations for doing this early. The requirements and costs vary, depending on the country you’re coming from.
