Personal and travel documents

Make sure your travel documents are up to date well before you leave. Check that your passport is still valid. It must be valid for three months past the date that you intend to leave for New Zealand.

You must have the appropriate and current visa. Not everyone needs a visa to travel to New Zealand so check our visa-waiver countries list if you’re not sure.

Bring personal documents in your hand luggage. These are documents that you need to bring:

  • birth certificate for you and your family members
  • academic qualifications
  • marriage certificate if applicable
  • references from previous employers
  • curriculum vitae
  • credit references
  • international driver’s licence
  • medical and dental records for you and your family members
