The Tasman district covers a wide rural/urban area with townships often separated by hills and mountains. Although there are no train services, daily buses traverse the district, often linking with other areas. Motueka has an airport providing daily flights to Wellington, a flying school, aero club and skydiving facilities. A smaller airport is located in Takaka. Commercial boat operators service the Abel Tasman National Park.
The main towns have a good range of banking facilities, medical centres, and other infrastructure services. Richmond boasts a huge shopping area, with a near completed mall, while Motueka’s central business district continues to expand.
Growing numbers of people choosing to live in our unique district for lifestyle reasons has resulted in a strong demand for land and housing, contributing to a buoyant real estate market. The sharp rise in house prices and below average incomes has affected the home affordability particularly for first time home owners.
