On 16 May 2012, the Sibling and Adult Child Category for residence closed. Immigration New Zealand (INZ) no longer accepts applications under this category and will return any applications received on or after 16 May 2012 without processing them (no fee will be charged).

Sibling and Adult Child residence applications that INZ received before 16 May 2012 are expected to have an initial assessment done by July 2017.
Timeframes for initial assessments of applications are outlined below.

Residence applications will need to meet the requirements that were in place on the date they were received by INZ.
Between July 2014 and June 2016, 2,820 places are available under the New Zealand Government Residence Programme for people to be approved residence if they had made an application under the Sibling and Adult Child or Parent categories before 16 May 2012.
