Investor 2 Category – how to apply

The first step in the Investor 2 Category application is to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) form. Please do not submit any supporting evidence with your EOI. If we invite you to apply for residence you will need to provide evidence with your application.

You will need to complete the Investor (Investor 2 Category) Expression of Interest (INZ 1165) PDF.

The Investor (Investor 2 Category) Guide (INZ 1164) PDF will help you fill in the form.

What is the process and how long will it take?

Processing an Investor application through to approval in principle takes approximately three months, although how long it takes depends not only on our processes, but also on other factors, for example:

  • whether you provide all of the information we need to assess your application at the start
  • whether there are any health issues you or your family members have which we need to assess
  • how quickly we are able to receive verification from external sources regarding the information you provide
  • how quickly you are able to respond to requests we make for further information.

How do I apply under the Investor 2 Category?

The Investor 2 Category is managed by requiring applicants to first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). This is a points-based system. Those with the highest total points in their EOI may be invited to apply for residence. If you are invited to apply for residence you must lodge your residence application within three months of the date of our letter of invitation.

How do I submit an EOI?

You must fully complete the Investor (Investor 2 Category) Expression of Interest (INZ 1165) PDF form and send it, along with the fee, to the Business Migration Branch at:

Business Migration Branch
PO Box 3705
Wellington
New Zealand

You do not need to provide any documentary evidence with your EOI.

What are the fees?

The EOI and the residence application fees for the Investor 2 Category are included in our Fees Guide (INZ 1028) PDF.
