Becoming a resident

If your Work Permit was granted under one of our Work to Residence categories, you can apply for residence after you’ve been living and working in New Zealand for two years.

See the requirements you need to meet if:

 

• you’re working for an accredited employer under our Work to Residence Talent (Accredited Employers) category. 
  
• you’re here under our Work to Residence Talent (Arts, Sport and Culture) category. 
  
• you’re here under our Work to Residence Long Term Shortage List category. 

 

If you’re working under any of our temporary Work Permit categories you can also apply for residence in New Zealand.  Find out more about applying for residence under our different categories:

 

• Skilled Migrant  - find out whether you’re eligible by completing our online Expression of Interest form.  Work experience and work in areas we consider to be skilled employment can earn you points and bonus points to help you become a resident.
