Jean Batten was known as the “Garbo of the Skies” because of her adventurous spirit and glamorous good looks. She pioneered long distance air travel in the 1930s, and had a determination to succeed in activities that were traditionally male. In 1934 she flew from London to Sydney in 15 days, smashing the record by five days.
