I had to pay a bond as a condition of my visitor visa. How can I get this back?

To apply for a bond refund, you need to write to Immigration New Zealand within 12 months of:

  • leaving New Zealand, after being in New Zealand lawfully,
  • being granted a residence class visa, after being in New Zealand lawfully,
  • first becoming unlawful in New Zealand, if you remain in New Zealand after your visa expires.

Further information on bond refunds and conditions are provided in your bond acceptance letter.
