The requirements for a second or subsequent Returning Resident’s Visa differ depending on when you first gained residence in New Zealand.
If you were first granted residence after 30 October 1995 you will be considered under our General Policy. Want to find out whether you are eligible?
If you were first granted residence before 30 October 1995 you will be considered under our Transitional Policy. Want to find out whether you are eligible?
If you are eligible under both policies, you are considered under the policy which is more favourable for you.
Note: If you hold a resident permit, but you are a person who would otherwise be prohibited for entry (for instance, because you would be subject to travel sanctions), you may only be eligible for a 14-day Returning Resident’s Visa. If you think this might apply to you, you should contact your nearest branch of Immigration New Zealand to discuss your situation.
You must also be in good health and of good character to re-enter New Zealand.
