| I have been a resident for 12 months and need go overseas to a funeral for a couple of weeks. |
You do not need to apply as you were granted a Returning Resident’s Visa for two years at the same time you were granted your residence permit. |
| I have been a resident for 23 months – and will be travelling overseas for a couple of months. |
You must apply for a Residents Returning Visa as your first visa will expire while you are away. If you have been in New Zealand for 184 days in each of the past two years or meet one of the commitment requirements, you are likely to be granted a Returning Resident’s Visa. |
| I am applying for a Returning Resident’s Visa on 23 October 2003. I arrived on 23 October 2001. My initial two year Returning Resident’s Visa will expire on 23 October 2003. |

| As long as you are not subject to Section 18A you are likely to be approved a Returning Resident’s Visa as in the first 12 months period you spent 287 days in New Zealand and in the second 12 month period you spent 225 days in New Zealand and therefore meet the requirement of spending considerable time in New Zealand. |
| I was included in my parents' residence application when I was 16 years old. I am now 19 and would like to apply for an indefinite RRV. |
As you were not the principal applicant in your original residence application you are not likely to be issued an indefinite RRV. You will be issued with a 14 day RRV. You may wish to consider applying for New Zealand citizenship so that you can travel on a New Zealand passport. |
