Bach - a holiday home (in the southern part of the South Island it’s also known as a crib).

Residents

Now you’re a resident, you’ll be busy with daily life in New Zealand. But, you may be thinking of the future and would like to know more about:

Settling in New Zealand

There may be some aspects of life you’d like to understand better or some things you need help with.

Our Guide to Living in New Zealand has lots of information and there are also many agencies that can help – some especially set up to help you settle in New Zealand.

Leaving New Zealand for a trip or holiday

You may be ready to go for a holiday overseas; or maybe you need to travel to see friends and family? If so, you’ll need to know all about Returning Resident’s Visas

If you have a Returning Resident’s Permit, the Returning Resident's Visa gives you the right to resume their residence status when you return to New Zealand.

Your first Returning Resident’s Visa is valid for two years. After that, if you wish to travel overseas and then return to New Zealand, you will most likely need to apply for a Returning Resident’s Visa. A second Returning Resident’s Visa is, in general, valid indefinitely provided you have shown commitment to New Zealand over the two years before you apply.

Becoming a New Zealand citizen

Your next step may be to become a New Zealand citizen. And if you’re a New Zealand citizen with a New Zealand passport, you don’t need a Returning Resident’s Visa.

Sponsoring your family to join you

You may wish that some of your closer family members could come to join you. We provide an opportunity for partners, parents, siblings and adult children, and dependent children to join you here in New Zealand

Different people have various different requirements to meet – some may need your sponsorship, some may need to find work.

Or you may have some general questions

There may be some other questions you may have – our list of general questions may help you.
