Evidence of meeting residence requirements

To be eligible for residence under our Entrepreneur Category, you will need to show that you have met a number of requirements for establishing your business in New Zealand.

Evidence that you have successfully established your business

For you to have successfully established a business you need to have established, purchased or made an investment of at least 25 per cent in a business operating in New Zealand. You must also have been self-employed or, if you are a part-owner, have worked, in that New Zealand business for at least two years.

The evidence we will need could include:

  • a certificate of incorporation or other documents that provide evidence of the business’ constitution
  • audited accounts
  • GST records
  • other tax records
  • documents showing property leased or purchased by the business
  • invoices for business equipment and supplies
  • other documents such as employment agreements, bank statements, invoices from phone and power companies.

Evidence that your business is benefiting New Zealand

The evidence you need to provide that your business is benefiting New Zealand could include:

  • audited accounts
  • tax records
  • export/import documents – such as letters of credit
  • employment records
  • other documents that show any benefit to New Zealand.

Evidence that your business meets New Zealand employment and immigration law

You will need to have documents that show us you meet these requirements, such as documents proving you are:

  • paying employees no less than the correct adult or youth minimum wages, or the industry standard
  • meeting holiday and special leave requirements and looking after the health and safety of your employees
  • only employing people who are legally able to work in New Zealand.
