Steps to apply for residence as an entrepreneur

Follow these steps if you wish to apply for residence in New Zealand under our Entrepreneur Category

To help you make sure you have everything you need to apply for residence, please print out our checklist.

Step 1

Complete the Entrepreneur/ERB Residence Application (INZ 1056) PDF available from Immigration New Zealand offices. 

Step 2

Along with your completed (and signed) application form you will need to provide:

  • evidence you have successfully established your business 
  • evidence your business is benefiting New Zealand 
  • evidence your business meets New Zealand employment and immigration law 
  • evidence you meet our English language requirements
  • evidence that you and your partner (if included in your application) meet our partnership requirements
  • evidence your partner and dependent children meet our English language requirements, unless they intend to pre-purchase full ESOL tuition
  • the application fee.

Step 3

For each person included in your application you will also need to provide:

  • two recent passport-size photographs
  • a current passport or certificate of identity
  • a full birth certificate
  • a completed Medical and X-ray Certificate – less than three months old
  • a police certificate less than six months old for each family member aged 17-years and over.

Step 4

Your application must be sent to your nearest Immigration New Zealand branch.

Step 5

If your application is successful, you will need to pay a migrant levy before we can grant your resident visa.
