The survey will provide a profile of migrants and link migrant characteristics (used or potentially able to be used) in selection policies with subsequent settlement experiences and outcomes. It will be designed to ensure that analysis can be done on the basis of key characteristics such as age, sex, immigration category and level of skills including English language ability. In addition, information about on-migration and migrants who decide not to stay in New Zealand will be collected.
Key interest areas for the survey include:
- the labour market
- use of government and community social services
- business activity, entrepreneurship and self-employment
- social cohesion and local linkages
- international linkages
- economic status, cash/asset transfers.
