Only media and broadcasting personnel who are accredited by the New Zealand or international event organisers may apply under this category (see the updated provision V3.85 in Amendment Circular 2010-11).
Non-accredited media or broadcasting personnel must apply for a work visa.
If you are accredited by the international governing body or the New Zealand organising committee as media or broadcasting personnel to cover the event and are from a country that doesn’t require a visitor visa to enter New Zealand, you may come for up to three months to cover the event. You will need to bring evidence of your accreditation.
If you require a visitor visa to enter New Zealand, you can make an application under this policy (V3.85). Evidence of your accreditation must be provided with your application. This will allow you to be in New Zealand for up to three months to cover the event.
If the tournament you are coming to referee is for less than three months you can enter New Zealand under the visitor category. A work visa is only required if your employment as a referee is more than three months.
If you don’t require a visitor visa to enter New Zealand, you may stay for up to three months. You will need to have evidence that you will be participating in the tournament when you enter New Zealand e.g. a letter of invitation from the organisers.
If you require a visitor visa to enter New Zealand, you can make an application at the nearest INZ branch under this category (V3.85). You will need to provide a letter of invitation from the organisers to participate in the event with your application. This will allow you to participate as a sports official at the tournament, for up to three months.
