Revision of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO)

Wednesday, 29 July 2009
The Australian Bureau of Statistics and Statistics New Zealand has recently completed a revision of the ANZSCO First Edition.

Key changes incorporated in the ANZSCO revision include:

  • the addition of new occupations
  • the addition of specialisations within occupations
  • occupation title changes
  • occupation scope changes
  • the merging of occupations, and
  • amendments to definitions of categories (sub-major groups, minor groups, unit groups and occupations).

No changes were made to the skill level of occupations that were already listed in the ANZSCO First Edition.

On 27 July 2009, the Long Term Skill Shortage List (Appendix 6), Immediate Skilled Shortage List and the List of Skilled Occupations (Appendix 11) were updated to reflect these changes.

You may wish to view the detailed ANZSCO changes PDF or the revised ANZSCO

We will contact you if we require changes to be made to your Expression of Interest or residence application form.

For more information, refer to our Amendment Circular 2009-07 PDF, which contains all of the policy changes highlighted for ease of reference.
