UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees)
UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) Executive Committee (ExCom) and the Refugee Tripartite provides an opportunity for more active engagement with UNHCR on issues of international protection, UNHCR systems and processes. New Zealand operates an annual refugee quota programme, one of only 16 countries in the world to do so. The make-up of the 750 resettlement places in the annual quota is agreed each year through tripartite consultations with NGOs that assist in the resettlement process as well as with resident refugee communities and input from the UNHCR country report on priorities for resettlement. The composition of the quota is also shaped by ministerial priorities.
