Our active engagement in multilateral fora serves to promote New Zealand’s immigration-related interests, enhance our international reputation through reliability and fulfilment of our international obligations, and minimise the adverse impacts of immigration. New Zealand's interests are advanced by participating in multilateral initiatives on common standards, security and law and order; responding to international humanitarian crises; providing a safe haven for refugees; and reducing the risk and cost to New Zealand of unexpected non-compliance with existing laws and regulations.
