Requirements for offers of employment

Workers from overseas may be eligible for a Work Visa or Permit under Work to Residence if they have an offer of employment from a New Zealand employer unable to find suitably skilled New Zealanders, or from an accredited employer.

To be acceptable, an offer of employment must include:

  • the employer’s name, address and contact details
  • the prospective employee’s name and address
  • a full job description and person specification, covering:
o the job title or designation
o the address of the place of employment
o the type of work, duties and responsibilities of the job
o details of the pay and conditions of employment, such as sick or holiday leave
    o qualifications and experience requirements
o confirmation of whether or not registration in New Zealand is required
o the duration of the job
o how long the job offer is open for.

The offer must meet the requirements of New Zealand employment laws.

And, if the occupation requires the worker to be registered in New Zealand, we’ll also want to see evidence they have occupational registration here. This could be full or provisional occupational registration depending on the occupation.

An offer of employment must be current at the time we assess the prospective employee’s application for a Work Visa or Permit.
