To apply to move to New Zealand under the Skilled Migrant Category a person from overseas needs to complete an Expression of Interest. This is usually done online through the online services section of our website or manually on the Expression of Interest form PDF. When they complete this form they’ll have the opportunity to determine the number of points they qualify for against a range of factors.
We’ve assigned points to these factors so that we can rank Expressions of Interest and invite people who have the most to offer New Zealand to apply for residence.
People can qualify for points for work experience that we recognise. This is work experience that is:
- relevant to their recognised qualification
or
- relevant to their current or offer of skilled employment in New Zealand
or
- skilled because it required, or enabled themto gain, specialist, technical or management skills and experience relevant to an occupation that may be considered skilled employment.
If a person is not currently working in skilled employment in New Zealand, or doesn’t have an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand, their work experience can only qualify for points if it was gained in a comparable labour market.
