Requirements of Residence

When a person from overseas is granted a Residence Permit under our Skilled Migrant Category there may still be some requirements they need to meet in order to keep their status as a New Zealand resident.
  • If the applicant has an offer of skilled employment
    • they must take up that offer of skilled employment within three months of being granted their first Residence Permit
      and
    • they must remain in that employment - or in other skilled employment for which they would qualify for points or bonus points - for at least three months.
  • If the applicant is already in New Zealand and has been working in skilled employment for less than three months…
    • they must remain in that employment - or in other skilled employment for which they would qualify for points or bonus points - for at least three months.

In both cases the applicant must also tell us their home address in New Zealand or of any change to that home address.

We need to see evidence they’ve met these requirements within seven months of them being granted residence.

In all cases the applicant will need to pay the fees that relate to their application.
