You have some very powerful options for attracting migrants to your business, industry or region. This includes both onshore and offshore advertising, and individual or collaborative initiatives.
Employers can advertise individually of course, especially if it’s a specific vacancy. But if there are regional shortages a more cooperative approach might be the answer. Economic Development Agencies (EDAs) may be able to help by organising a collaborative approach to the problem.
Some regional or industry bodies recruit and interview overseas for specific vacancies, and individual employers can do this as well. You can get approval in principle to hire a migrant before doing any overseas recruitment. A labour market test will prove whether or not there are any New Zealanders available.
It’s important to remember that if you advertise globally you’ll probably receive applications or expressions of interest from people who are unsuitable for your position. They may not have the qualifications, experience or English language skills needed. Or they may not be eligible for a Work Permit.
Check our employment options and specific rules and requirements before you advertise. And remember to include a termination date on your offer.
