Do they need medical insurance?

Unless their Work Permit is for two years or more, overseas workers will generally not be eligible for publicly-funded health and disability services. So they are strongly advised to have comprehensive health insurance for the duration of their stay.

People covered by New Zealand’s Reciprocal Health Agreements with Australia and United Kingdom are entitled to publicly-funded health care for immediately necessary medical treatment only.
