Helping international students to settle in

Many people have a responsibility to making sure that international students who come to New Zealand are comfortable, safe, and happy.

Education providers, whether they are secondary schools, universities or private language schools, have a significant part to play. So do those who offer homestay or hostel accommodation.

Coming to a new country with a different culture, language and way of life is difficult for anyone. Most international students are young and far from their families. So it’s even more important that they are well cared for here.

The future of our international education sector depends on the experience of those who are here now being successful and positive.

Look at our advice to students. This will give you some ideas of the kinds of issues that may arise and the support that’s available.
