Evidence of a student’s arrangements to leave New Zealand

Before granting a Student Visa or Permit to a student from overseas we may want evidence that they have plans to leave New Zealand once their study is finished.

Evidence that a student has travel plans to leave New Zealand after their stay can include:

  • confirmed or open-dated travel tickets out of New Zealand to a country they may rightfully enter
  • a letter from an airline or travel agent to say their travel has been booked and paid for
  • sufficient funds held in New Zealand, additional to the funds they’ll need for living expenses, to purchase any such ticket
  • an approved undertaking from a New Zealand sponsor that, if necessary, they’ll meet the cost of the student’s travel back to their home country at the completion of their training
  • an undertaking from someone else that, if necessary, they’ll meet the cost of the student’s travel back to their home country at the completion of their training.  We’ll need this before considering the student for a visa
  • financial assistance available to the student under an aid programme operated in New Zealand by a government agency.
