Welcome to Immigration New Zealand – Shanghai Branch

The Shanghai branch employs 39 staff, divided into three teams – a student and support team, a temporary entry team and a resident visa team. Details of the staff in each team are listed under staff contacts on the contact details page.


This branch is responsible for processing visas for the following provinces in the People's Republic of China. 

  • Jiangsu
  • Shanghai
  • Zhejiang
  • Anhui
  • Jiangxi, and
  • Fujian.

The following languages are spoken by staff at the Shanghai branch.

  • Shanghaihua
  • English
  • Mandarin, and
  • a small number of dialects such as Cantonese.

All 200 places for Chinese chefs were filled between October 2008 and September 2011. Further places will be released in batches, to manage demand. On 2 April 2012, 33 places will become available. On 8 October 2012, a further 33 places will become available.

VFS Global Services (VFS) has been appointed by Immigration New Zealand (INZ) as a collection agent for visa applications with effect from 12 August in Shanghai and from 17 October 2011 for Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
