With approximately 50 staff, the branch is responsible for processing temporary visa applications for the extended Canterbury, West Coast and Nelson / Marlborough regions and also processing residence applications for the South Island. The branch also processes applications for the Fishing industry and for APEC cards.

Following the Christchurch earthquake the office remains closed to the public. The branch continues to operate and staff can be contacted by phone and email.
