China Working Holiday Scheme

Monday, 13 September 2010
Some of the requirements for the China Working Holiday Scheme (WHS) are changing, with effect from 1 October 2010.

Applicants who successfully obtain a place under the China WHS on or after 1 October 2010 will now be required to meet the following requirements.

Applicants must:

  • have their senior high school qualification (gao zhong xue li) verified by the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Centre (CDGDC)
  • prove their proficiency in English by providing a certificate from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), showing they achieved an average level of 5.5 over the four components of the test.

The IELTS certificate (as detailed above) is now the only means of proving proficiency in English under the China WHS.  All other requirements under the China WHS remain unchanged.

The verification from the CDGDC and the IELTS certificate must be provided with all the other documentation requested by the INZ branch (Beijing or Shanghai) processing the visa application.
