Where possible, you should allow sufficient time for the processing of your application. Some applications can take longer if we need (i) any extra information, (ii) if documents require verification, or (iii) if there is anything in a medical or X-ray certificate which needs to be followed up. As we strive to provide you with a timely outcome you can assist us in the following ways:

• Avoid paying for travel prior to the approval of your visa;
• Applications should be presented as much in advance as possible;
• Use e-mail where possible to contact case officers rather than telephone or fax. Email is our preferred method of communication, please ensure you also provide us with your current email address and check your email regularly;
• Please refer to the checklists link for the requirements for each category of visa application;
• If providing original documents, please ensure they are accompanied by a photocopy
• Please ensure that all other contact details you provide us are current and correct;
• If applicable, contact your student agent or Immigration Advisor before contacting us;
• All documents submitted are subject to verification. Please ensure that the contact details of any references or letters provided are up-to-date and correct;
• Please do not come into the branch for an update or to request an interview. All interviews are conducted by appointment only and your case officer will contact you should they decide an interview is needed.

Please allow sufficient time to process applications based on a partnership with a New Zealand resident or citizen. This includes applications lodged under the “General Visitor Visa Category” but still involves a relationship with a New Zealand resident or citizen.

Some clients and agents are contacting us daily and this results in resources being drawn away from the actual processing of applications. Our objective is to make a decision as fast as possible and only have to touch the application once. By following the steps above, you will help us to help you.

Once a decision has been made, you may collect your passport and documents between 1:00pm-3:00pm (except Wednesdays 1:00pm-2:00pm). All other information and detailed checklists can be found on our branch website.
