In order to be eligible for accreditation, employers need to prove that their business currently meets, and will continue to meet, the following requirements set out by Immigration New Zealand (INZ).
INZ should be satisfied that the business:
- is in a sound financial position; and
- has Human Resource policies and processes which are of a high standard; and
- has a demonstrable commitment to training and employing New Zealanders; and
- has good workplace practices, including a history of compliance with all immigration and employment laws.
The following factors are also considered in determining whether an employer is eligible for accreditation:
- how long the employing organisation has been established as a going concern;
- the employer’s relationship with their Industry Training Organisation (ITO);
- whether the employer is a member of the Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) Employers Group;
- whether the employer is IOS (International Organisation for Standardisation) certified;
- how long the employer intends to maintain accreditation and how this relates to any visas and permits held by employees under the Talent (Accredited Employers) Work Policy.
As part of the evaluation process INZ consults with various agencies and bodies such as the Employment Relations, the Health and Safety Section of the Department of Labour, the Accident Compensation Corporation, relevant Unions and other employee representatives.
If INZ receives information which may be prejudicial to a positive outcome, that adverse information will be put to the employer for comment. The Business Relationship Advisor will then consider all the information and evidence provided against the operational policy in coming to a decision.
