Information Technology

Join a Country of World Leaders

New Zealanders are world leaders at applying technology to add value. For a small country, we have a surprising array of innovative ICT companies. We’re also one of the fastest countries in the world at adopting new technology, with one of the highest rates in the world of usage of internet, mobile phone and electronic transfer technologies.

Multimedia is one of New Zealand’s most exciting emerging industries. ‘The Lord of the Rings‛ was filmed and post-production completed in New Zealand, with special effects by Weta Workshop and Weta Digital. We have a reputation as an innovative and flexible telecommunications and electronics supplier, with companies leading the world in a number of market sectors, including GPS and radio communications. And information technology is one of our fastest-growing export sectors, totalling an estimated NZ$1.5 billion last year.

However, the ICT sector has been issued with a challenge – to raise its contribution to New Zealand’s GDP from 4% to 10%.

How is this going to happen? By attracting experienced and qualified people to grow internationally competitive businesses. Forecast levels of ICT employment in 2012 are 125,000, compared with the current level of about 41,000. And it’s your expertise and experience that can help us realise this vision.
