Guns and other firearms

New Zealand has strict controls on importing firearms or guns. In New Zealand it’s illegal to own a gun for self defence, and you must have a firearms licence for any weapons that you own.

If you wish to bring any guns with you, you’ll first need a firearms licence and an import permit from the New Zealand Police.

The best way to do this is to leave any firearms you have behind until you arrive here. Then obtain the licence and permit to import the firearms.
